A hiking trip in the middle of the mountains and the hinterland of Charlevoix. The Traversée de Charlevoix trail is a unique route in the Charlevoix region. This 105-kilometer route, which extends from Saint-Urbain to La Malbaie, crosses some of the wildest regions of the province.

The route begins in the mountains and offers spectacular panoramic views of the St. Lawrence River. The route then crosses forests, lakes, streams and waterfalls.

Every evening, we will go to our refuge for supper and a comfortable night’s sleep. Basic equipment is provided in each shelter as well as mattresses and cooking equipment. Your guide will take the time to cook good meals for you every day.

The Traversée de Charlevoix route is an unforgettable experience for hikers who are passionate about nature and the outdoors. The magnificent landscapes, solitude, local fauna and flora make it a unique and authentic adventure in a preserved natural environment.

itinerary

DAY 1: Transportation and hiking

Departure from Quebec City in the morning around 8:30 a.m. towards Saint-Urbain. After a stop at the crossing office for final preparations, we will begin the hike. Arrival at the Écureuil refuge in the afternoon.
Departure possible by bus from Montreal (option to be requested when booking $$), we will then pick you up at the downtown Quebec City station.

DAY 2: Marmotte hike

The start of the day takes place on flat terrain but the difference in altitude becomes greater as you go along the mountainside. The following kilometers follow the Gouffre river. At kilometer 9, there is a choice between a standard trail, which is flat and close to the river, and an expert trail, steeper to climb the Mont des Morios. The day ends at the Marmotte refuge on the edge of a river.

Hiking: 15 km – positive elevation 160 m – negative elevation 420 m – summit 740 m

DAY 3: Chouette hike

This third day, with a high point at the summit of La Noyée mountain, offers a panoramic view of the Charlevoix region. Then, the hike goes back down the valley to the La Chouette refuge, which is located near a small lake surrounded by trees and fir trees.

Hiking: 17 km – positive elevation 550 m – negative elevation 400 m – summit 850 m

DAY 4: Geai Bleu hike

A day of hiking in the Hautes-Gorges de la Rivière Malbaie national park. The hike mainly includes a descent which leads to a valley offering magnificent views to reach the Geai Bleu refuge which is located on a cliff on the banks of the Malbaie river.

Hiking: 20 km – positive elevation 440 m – negative elevation 780 m – summit 860 m

DAY 5: Coyotte hike

A day of hiking mainly uphill to reach the Coyotte refuge.

Hiking: 16 km – positive elevation 550 m – negative elevation 180 m – summit 610 m
Accommodation: Coyotte refuge

DAY 6: Epervier hike

A not too difficult day of hiking with alternating uphill and downhill stretches over 18 km. On the program, beautiful landscapes and blueberries to pick. Arrival in the afternoon at the Épervier refuge.

Hiking: 20 km – positive elevation 340 m – negative elevation 500 m – summit 720 m
Accommodation: Épervier refuge

DAY 7: Mont Grand-Fonds hike and return transportation

Last day of hiking arriving at Mont Grand-Fonds and returning to civilization. We will make a well-deserved gourmet stop on the way back.

Hiking: 10 km – positive elevation 220 m – negative elevation 660 m – summit 645 m
Road: 3 hours from Quebec City

    Group equipment, participants’ personal effects as well as food will be transported between each refuge by another motorized team. During the day, you will only need a small backpack.

    Transportation

    Departure is from Quebec City with a 15-passenger vehicle. Possibility of picking you up along the way. You can also go by your own to the activity location (no discount).

    Weather

    We believe that there is no such thing as bad weather when hiking. The activity still takes place. In the event of a situation with a lot of rain, risk of thunderstorms or too much wind, the activity may be transferred. The final decision to cancel in the event of bad weather is the responsibility of the guide or the administration of Quatre Natures.

    Booking Policies

    When booking, a 30% deposit must be paid by credit card (VISA, MasterCard or American Express). The balance of payment will be made 30 days before your activity.

    In case of cancellation made more than 60 days before the date of your activity, your reservation will be refunded 100%. Between 59 days and 30 days before the date of your activity, 70% of the total amount will be refunded to you. No refund for a cancellation less than 30 days before your activity.

    Weather : The decision to cancel in case of bad weather is the responsibility of the guide or the administration of Quatre Natures. Under no circumstances the customer can cancel and have a refund if he does not like the weather.
