Imagine, for a moment, discovering the wonders of this region by participating in a full week-long stay, where each day is marked by the gentle waves of the ocean and the scent of the underbrush. This trip promises to be a true immersion in nature, thanks to a perfect mix of activities such as sea kayaking and hiking. Moments of sharing and discovery await!
Together, we will have the opportunity to conquer the Desolation Sound Marine Park by kayak, a stunning place known for its exceptional wildlife and flora. This marine park is a true gem, where environmental preservation is the priority. You’ve surely heard about the majestic orcas that roam these waters, haven’t you? Their graceful leaps and melodic calls will make each sea outing even more magical.
But that’s not all! Get ready to explore the beautiful Juan de Fuca hiking trail, a route still relatively untouched by mass tourism. It will take you through a lush, well-preserved forest, where you can admire centuries-old trees that seem to whisper the secrets of time. The landscapes you’ll discover along this journey are breathtaking, and sometimes, you may even be lucky enough to spot a majestic bald eagle soaring above your head.
Ready for this unforgettable adventure? All you need to do is pack your bags and come enjoy the magic of Vancouver and its surroundings!
After exploring the city of Vancouver and visiting the beautiful Stanley Park, we will begin our journey towards the Sunshine Coast. We will start the day by taking a ferry that connects the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver Island through the Strait of Georgia. Our first stop on the island will be the small town of Comox, a military port. Then, we will take another boat to explore coastal and mountainous landscapes. Finally, after a few hours of driving, we will reach our destination: the small village of Port Renfrew. We will be at the starting point of the famous Juan de Fuca Coastal Trail.
Known for its exceptional beaches and panoramic views of the surrounding wildlife and flora, the trail passes through Avatar Grove, a beautifully preserved old-growth forest that is home to some of the island’s oldest trees.
Route: 6h including the ferry
Hiking: optional, local walk
Accommodation: Hotel in Port Renfrew
After a comforting breakfast at Tomi’s, we will finalize the last preparations for our trek on the Juan de Fuca Trail. This approximately 50 km trail is the southern extension of the West Coast Trail. It offers the ultimate experience of the coastal rainforest, where time seems to stand still with the changing tides.
With its damp forests, endless beaches, dramatic coastal scenery, impressive suspension bridges, and abundant wildlife, the Juan de Fuca Trail will give you an incredible experience.
In the afternoon, after a break at China Beach, we will begin the first relatively easy kilometers, winding through ancient forests. However, the trail can sometimes be very wet (gaiters are a must here). Finally, after a series of suspension bridges and a break at Mystic Beach, we will reach our first campsite at Bear Beach.
Hiking: 10km
Route: 30min
Accommodation: Bear Beach camping
Today, we only have 12 km to cover, but they will undoubtedly be the toughest of the trip. This section of the trail consists of a series of climbs and descents to cross about ten streams that flow into the Pacific Ocean, between Bear Beach and Chin Beach.

Our final segment on the Juan de Fuca Trail will take us to Sombrio Beach. After a series of climbs and creek crossings, we will reach a massive suspension bridge overlooking the Loss Creek waterfall. This moment is undoubtedly one of the highlights of the trip. Then we will reach Sombrio Beach by midday. If we have some time left, we will have the opportunity to drive the final stretch of the trip to Port Renfrew via Botanical Beach.
